About the artist

Gregory Eddi Jones (Syracuse, NY, 1986) is a photographic artist based between Philadelphia and New York. He holds a BFA in photography from Rochester Institute of Technology, and an MFA in Visual Studies from Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, NY.

Early in his career, Jones realized the camera was an inadequate tool for making the kinds of pictures that felt true to him. The escape from traditional photography lead him on a years-long journey of experimenting with the misuse of photographic tools such as photoshop, inkjet printers and papers, and smart phones. Jones has achieved international recognition for producing work that charts new paths in photographic literature, reimagining the possibilities of the medium, and pushing discussion of photography into new modes of theory and interpretation.

Jones' work has been exhibited internationally at venues such as Beaconsfield Gallery (London, UK), Photoforum Pasquart (Biel, Switzerland), Red Hook Labs (Brooklyn, NY), and the Asama International Photo Festival (Miyota, Japan). 

His projects have been featured widely in international publications such as The Guardian, VICE, British Journal of Photography, Wallpaper, Blind, IMA Magazine, Humble Arts, and FOAM Magazine, among others. He was named a FOAM Talent in 2018, and was a nominee for both the Paul Huf Award and the Images Vevey Book Award in 2021.

Jones often realizes his projects in book form, and his self-published photobooks are held in over three-dozen university and museum libraries, including Museum of Modern Art, The Met, The Brooklyn Museum of Art, Victoria & Albert Museum, and Yale University, among many others. 

In addition to his artistic endeavors, Jones is a prolific photography critic who has contributed essays and interviews to top photographic editorial platforms such as FOAM Magazine, LensCulture, Paper Magazine, Unseen Magazine, and Afterimage, among others. For 9+ years he ran his own publishing platform, In the In-Between, for which he oversaw the publication of hundreds of contemporary photographers and writers engaging with photography in critical, emotional, and theoretical ways.
